Hello! I’m Tom, an author of both non-fiction and fiction books. I have a strong background in astronomy, and I’m an astrotourism veteran with a focus on aurora and eclipse-chasing (more on that below.)
Aside from writing, I occupy my time as an international speaker, broadcaster and consultant, specialising in the rewarding task of connecting people to their shared universe. As a passionate and resolute stargazer, I believe that a connection to the night sky is a fundamental part of the human experience, and in all my endeavours, I aim to strengthen that relationship to promote a positive impact for current and future generations. I work around the world to deliver a huge variety of projects, so if you think there’s a way we can work together, get in touch!
Astrotourism
With a long history of admiration for the night sky, I’ve come to recognise that it holds a transformative power, particularly as our lives become increasingly insular and dominated by information. Stargazing is a shared experience not only across the world, but through generations of deep time, and at some level it is fundamental to the human experience.
Adventurous astronomy experiences are among a diverse range of professional services I offer, and I’ve led stargazing experiences in Iceland, Norway, Finland, Hawaii, Namibia, Guatemala, Chile, the USA and more. At the root of the astrotourism sector are the sky’s biggest wonders: eclipses and auroras. I’m a seasoned eclipse-chaser and even more experienced with the Northern Lights.
I hold the unusual title of Chief Aurora Chaser for the Norwegian coastal cruise firm Hurtigruten. It’s a one-of-a-kind role at the forefront of the world’s most popular bucket list experience. You can read more about it here.
Publishing
Books played a pivotal role in inspiring my interest in astronomy at a young age. Today, I write my own titles for the next generation, as well as guides for general enthusiasts looking to deepen their knowledge. I’ve written about observing objects in our Solar System, chasing the Northern Lights, extraordinary astronomy discoveries and much more. My children’s books include a mixture of non-fiction and narrative-driven educational stories. I’m also working on an expansive series of novels for teens (and adults who are young at heart), which draws upon science fact to inform its science fiction setting. You can find out more about my books here.
I’ve spoken a various literature festivals (including Bradford Literature Fest and Chiswick Children’s Book Festival) and many schools.
My life as an author is what I write about here. Perhaps you’re aspiring to be one yourself, or you’d just like to keep up with my work. Either way, I hope you find my output to be insightful. Thanks for reading!
